Chelsea Manning is the Face on September 2017 Issue of Vogue

Chelsea Manning 29, the former, US army whistleblower, and a transgender, is the face of the month for the September issue of Vogue 2017. September is going to be the 125th anniversary of Vogue US.

Serving as a male in US army, her appearance on vogue cover in a red swimwear is quite surprising. She has recently tweeted the image with an interesting caption saying, “guess this is what freedom looks like”

For those who do not know Manning, she was sentenced for 35 years in military prison back in 2013. It was in May 2017 when she was released from Fort Leavenworth prison after the former US president, Barack Obama commuted her remaining conviction before leaving his office.

Why was she Sentenced to jail?

Chelsea Manning was guilty of leaking a number of sensitive, hard hitting and truth-based documentation and info related to US army, to WikiLeaks. And she admitted the crime as well. She says, ‘I think it’s important to remember that when somebody sees government wrongdoing – whether it’s illegal or immoral or unethical – there isn’t the means available to do something about it … Everyone keeps saying: “You should have gone through the proper channels!” But the proper channels don’t work.’ She has also revealed to spent all the years in male prison cell, which was quite tough as transgender.

    Chelsea Manning Future Plans!

‘My goal is to use these next six months to figure out where I want to go. I have these values that I can connect with: responsibility, compassion. Those are really foundational for me. Do and say and be who you are because, no matter what happens, you are loved unconditionally.’
